Keep Up to Date with the latest developments at Chorley FC Community Foundation
“John's support exemplifies the power of community and the positive change that can be achieved through acts of kindness.”
Chorley FC Community Foundation recently received a generous donation from renowned author John Kay. The donation, amounting to £1000, was made from the proceeds of his book, "Grezza: A Very Special Player" which outlines the career and achievements of Preston North End legend, Graham Alexander. The funds will go towards supporting the Sporting Memories group, a project that holds great significance to John and countless others.
The Chorley FC Community Foundation has always been committed to enhancing the lives of individuals in the community, and the Sporting Memories group is an integral part of this mission. The group provides a safe and inclusive space for individuals, many of which are living with Alzheimers and Dementia, to come together, share memories, and engage in activities centered around sports.
For many participants, this group serves as a vital source of social interaction and weekly engagement. John Kay's generous donation from the proceeds of his book will directly support the Sporting Memories group, enabling us to extend the time it can remain free for all participants.
Darren Jenkinson, the chairman of the Chorley FC Community Foundation, expressed his heartfelt thanks and gratitude for John Kay's generous donation. In a statement, Darren said, "We are incredibly grateful to John for his generous donation to our Sporting Memories group. The funds received will help us continue to provide this vital service. John's support exemplifies the power of community and the positive change that can be achieved through acts of kindness."
"John's support sends a powerful message to the community about the importance of supporting one another. By keeping the group free at the point of entry, we are able to extend our reach to those who may otherwise be unable to participate due to financial constraints. The Sporting Memories group will continue to foster connections, create lasting impact in the community, and provide a platform for social engagement, and we can't thank John enough for that."
Copies of John's book are still available, for more information contact us on [email protected] and we can pass on your details.
Jacob and Thomas had the best time. They love football but both have found an even bigger love since attending here over the Easter and May half term. The coaches are all welcoming and really look after the children. Thank you! We will definitely be returning.
Routine is vital for the those living with Dementia among our group. We laugh a lot – and laughter is still the best medicine we can have! As my mother used to say, “Memories Last Longer Than Dreams” – and long may that continue!
“The pupils were very excited to take part in a football coaching session delivered by an actual football player from our local team, Chorley FC. The coach/player engaged the children well and they all had a thoroughly fun and enjoyable session.”
