Chorley FC Community Foundation Awarded National League Trust Funding

June 17, 20243 min read

Chorley FC Community Foundation has been awarded funding from the National League Trust (NLT) to continue delivering and growing our community projects over the next 12 months.

This funding is more than just financial support. It’s a recognition of the work we’ve been doing across Chorley, and a vote of confidence in the difference our programmes make to people’s lives. Thanks to the NLT, we can carry on supporting existing groups and launch new activities that help more people get involved in sport, friendship, and healthy living.

Over the years, our Foundation has worked hard to become a trusted part of the Chorley community. From children’s football camps to social groups for older people, we’ve built a wide range of projects that bring people together, improve wellbeing, and make sport accessible to all.

The NLT’s support allows us to build on that track record, making sure our current projects remain strong while giving us the opportunity to try new things and reach even more people.

Supporting Key Projects

Here are just a few of the initiatives the NLT funding will support over the coming year:

Sporting Memories Group – A welcoming space for older people, especially those living with or at risk of dementia or memory loss. Through football chat, memorabilia, and simple activities, this group helps people feel connected, valued, and less isolated.

Walking Football – A popular activity for older adults and those wanting to enjoy the game at a slower pace. Walking Football is about more than just keeping fit – it’s about fun, laughter, and friendships that make a real difference to people’s lives.

Disability Sports – One of the areas we’re most excited about developing further. With NLT support, we’ll be able to engage more people in disability sport, making sure football and physical activity are open to everyone in our community, regardless of ability.

These projects reflect what we care most about: giving people of all ages and backgrounds the chance to get active, connect with others, and feel part of something bigger.

Why the National League Trust Matters

The National League Trust plays a vital role in helping clubs like Chorley FC and their community foundations deliver meaningful work. Without their backing, many of the projects we run simply wouldn’t be possible.

Funding from the NLT means we can plan with confidence, knowing we have the resources to support staff, hire coaches, secure venues, and provide the equipment needed to run safe and enjoyable sessions. Most importantly, it gives us the chance to keep saying “yes” when new opportunities to help our community come along.

It’s no exaggeration to say that the NLT makes a huge difference to the work we do. Their support helps us move from good ideas to real-life programmes that touch hundreds of lives across Chorley.

Looking Ahead

With this funding in place, the next 12 months are shaping up to be really exciting. We’ll continue to grow our Sporting Memories group, making sure more people can benefit from the comfort of shared stories and community. Walking Football will carry on thriving, giving participants the chance to keep active while enjoying the social side of the game. And our plans to expand disability sport will take important steps forward, opening doors for people who may have felt left out of sport in the past.

We know the difference these projects make because we see it every week – whether it’s someone finding the courage to come along for the first time, or a participant telling us how much brighter their week feels after being part of one of our sessions.
